Whatever the attitude to myth, surely they\u2014myths, either personal or collective\u2014must be what we all live by, though largely unconsciously, as otherwise what is it that gives meaning to our lives or binds us together in communities of one kind or another?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This issue opens with a very fine essay from Jungian, Beverley Zabriskie: \u2018Orpheus and Eurydice: A Creative Agony.\u2019 Beverley\u2019s contribution is a profound and detailed examination of the truth and significance of myths and what the Orpheus and Eurydice myth can teach us about \u2018the range of experience as one both engages reality and reaches towards meaning.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jungian, and film aficionado, Christopher Hauke, also takes the Orpheus myth \u2018Orpheus, Dionysus and Popular Culture: Jean Cocteau\u2019s <em>Orph\u00e9e<\/em>\u2014Then and Now\u2019 and examines it through the lens of Cocteau\u2019s classic film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From non-European cultures we have recounts by present day First Nations people of encounters with \u2018mythic reality\u2019 given by John Briggs, Tiokasin Ghosthorse, and Robert Toth in \u2018The \u201cWholeself\u201d in Mythic Reality: Intuition, Imagination, Shape-shifting &amp; Mystery.\u2019 This mythic reality is equated with David Bohm\u2019s holoflux. And Urmi Chanda introduces us to \u2018Indian Mythology and Music: Mythological References of Musical Instruments and Vocal Traditions in Ancient Indian Texts.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Mark Vernon in \u2018Dante, Myth, and the Path to God,\u2019 Dante\u2019s <em>The Divine Comedy <\/em>can be called a myth and is an account of a real experience through which Dante had \u2018a direct taste of the unity of all creation,\u2019 an experience which required the deployment of his poetic genius to convey its fullness. While Mark Vernon focuses on eros, F. David Peat, looks at mythos and logos as \u2018Parallel Lines.\u2019 Bronwen Rees in \u2018Seeding the Old in the New:<br>The Invisible, Living Threads of the Traditions\u2019 calls us \u2018to reconnect with the myths and legends of the past&#8230;to recognise that they still live amongst us.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And finally, to the More Perspectives section which takes a lighthearted look at Modern Mythologies from Flat Earth theory to Paul McCartney\u2019s demise in the Sixties, to the belief that CERN is working to \u2018open new portals\u2019 in order to summon God, to the Stanford psychologist who is largely responsible for the mass release of psychiatric patients in the Seventies\u2014based on a fraudulent piece of research. He\u2019s worth quoting: \u2018Whenever the ratio of what is known to what needs to be known approaches zero, we tend to invent \u201cknowledge\u201d and assume that we understand more than we actually do.
