She is currently a faculty member at the Graduate College at the University of Illinois-Urbana, Champaign. She was previously the Thomas M. Siebel Professor in the History of Science at the University of Illinois and an Associate Professor at Harvard University. Canales is the author of\u00a0<em>A Tenth of a Second<\/em>:\u00a0<em>A History<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Physicist and The Philosopher: Einstein, Bergson, and the Debate That Changed Our Understanding of Time<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Bedeviled: A Shadow History of Demons in Science<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Simply Einstein<\/em>. Her books have been voted Top 10 Books about Time (<em>The Guardian)<\/em>, Best Science Books for<em>\u00a0<\/em>2015 (Science Friday, NPR, Public Radio International and Brainpickings), Top Reads for<em>\u00a0<\/em>2015 (<em>The Independent<\/em>), and Books of the Year for 2016 (<em>The Tablet<\/em>). Her scholarly work on the history of science has been published in\u00a0<em>Isis<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Science in Context<\/em>,\u00a0<em>History of Science<\/em>, the\u00a0<em>British Journal for the History of Science<\/em>, and the\u00a0<em>MLN<\/em>,<em>\u00a0<\/em>among others. Her work on visual, film and media studies has appeared in\u00a0<em>Architectural History<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Journal of Visual Culture<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Thresholds<\/em>. Canales writes frequently for general<em>\u00a0<\/em>audiences publishing in\u00a0<em>The New Yorker<\/em>, The Atl<em>antic, Artforum, Aperture, Nautilus\u00a0<\/em>and<em>\u00a0WIRED<\/em>\u00a0among others.
