{"id":61453,"date":"2024-04-24T10:10:05","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T08:10:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/paricenter.com\/?post_type=pc_contributor&#038;p=61453"},"modified":"2024-04-24T10:10:05","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T08:10:05","slug":"kevin-march","status":"publish","type":"pc_contributor","link":"https:\/\/paricenter.com\/contributor\/kevin-march\/","title":{"rendered":"Kevin March"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Kevin March<\/strong> is an award-winning composer whose works have been performed in North America, Australia, and Europe by Victorian Opera, Op\u00e9ra de Montr\u00e9al, Pacific Opera Victoria, Edmonton Opera, One Ounce Opera, PLEXUS, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Ironwood Ensemble, Halcyon, The Arcko Ensemble, the ASTRA Chamber Music Society, the New York City Opera, and by renowned performers Donna Coleman, Nicole Car, \u00c9tienne Dupuis, Gino Quilico, Stefan Cassomenos, Sarah Curro, and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His fifth opera, <em>Echo &amp; Narcissus,<\/em> commissioned by Victorian Opera, premiered in March 2021 to positive reviews. The <em>Sydney Morning Herald <\/em>called it &#8221; &#8230; delicate and enigmatic and often ravishingly beautiful.&#8221;&nbsp; His previous opera,&nbsp;<em>Les Feluettes<\/em> (The Lilies),&nbsp;commissioned by Op\u00e9ra du Montr\u00e9al, premiered in May 2016 to sold-out audiences, standing ovations, and rave reviews, and was nominated for a coveted Opus Award. <em>Les Feluettes <\/em>received two further productions, Pacific Opera Victoria and Edmonton Opera, which received two Sterling Award nominations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other awards include First Prize in the 3MBS National Composer Awards for his orchestral work <em>The Flowering <\/em>and the Dorian La Gallienne Prize for his setting of the Rimbaud poem <em>Oph\u00e9lie<\/em>. His song cycle, <em>Songs of Remembrance and Resistance<\/em>, was nominated for Outstanding Original Composition in the 2018 Austin Critics Table Awards. His music has been broadcast on ABC Classic FM and 3MBS radio. It has featured in the Metropolis New Music Festival and the 7<sup>th<\/sup> Sydney Biennale, and in the ABC Radio National documentary <em>Modern Muses: The Greeks and New Music<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His most recent work, <em>Electric Cathedral<\/em>, created in collaboration with Virtual Reality artist and poet reVerse Butcher and poet Kylie Supski, received a grant from The Australia Council for the Arts.&nbsp; He has also received creative grants from Vic Arts, the University of Michigan, and ArtServe Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scores for many of Kevin\u2019s compositions are available through Wirripang Publishing and the Australian Music Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kevin holds a&nbsp;Master&#8217;s degree and a Doctorate from the University of Michigan where his principal&nbsp;composition instructors were William Bolcom, William Albright, Michael Daugherty and Curtis Curtis-Smith.
